By taking the Shira route, you will approach Kilimanjaro from the western side, using the Lemosho route before connecting to the Machame route. Unlike other routes, the first day will be longer on the Shira route, you will bypass the rainforest zone and ascend to a height of 3500 m or 11500 ft, providing a breathtaking view of the mountain.
The Shira route is known for being less steep, especially during the first couple of days, making it attractive for those who prefer a less strenuous climb. Additionally, the route is less crowded, offering a more peaceful climb.
However, acclimatizing is still a good idea, especially if you’re coming from sea level. For this reason we encourage you to plan your trip with extra time to participate in the pre-hike acclimatization at Arusha National Park, a day before you start your climb.
